When a police officer is injured in the line of duty, the financial and emotional toll on both the officer and their loved ones can be overwhelming. Back the Badge 911—a program of the National Center for Police Defense (NCPD)—was created to provide immediate financial assistance to officers and families facing such hardship. Today, we are honored to announce that Officer Joshua McKnight of the Camden County Police Department has been named a recipient of our Back the Badge 911 program.
On the evening of February 23, 2025, 23‑year‑old Officer McKnight—himself a former U.S. Marine—was on routine patrol near Broadway and Chestnut Street in Camden, New Jersey, when he was stabbed in the neck by an assailant from behind. The blade pierced his carotid artery, and Officer McKnight was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in critical but stable condition. Thanks to the swift actions of his supervisor and medical staff, he survived a life‑threatening injury and is now on the road to recovery. (Read more here.)
Back the Badge 911 exists to ensure that Officers like Joshua McKnight—and their families—never face the burdens of recovery alone. While no amount can fully repay the price he paid for our safety, we hope this support helps cover essential expenses as he undergoes physical therapy and continues his road to full recovery.
Officer McKnight’s journey is far from over—and he and his family need our continued support. Here’s how you can help:
- Donate to Back the Badge 911. Your contribution provides direct financial relief to injured officers and their families.
- Share this story. The more awareness we raise, the more families we can assist.
