Officer Shane Lamond’s career has been defined by courage, integrity, and an unflinching commitment to public service. Following in the footsteps of his father—a decorated U.S. Army military intelligence officer—Shane enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he quickly distinguished himself and earned the Air Force Achievement Medal. From the very beginning, his passion for protecting our nation’s security and upholding its values was unmistakable.
After an honorable tenure in the Air Force, Shane answered the call to serve closer to home, joining the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. Over the years he rose through the ranks—ultimately supervising the Intelligence Branch of the Homeland Security Bureau—and became known for his tireless work ethic, his analytical acumen, and his unwavering loyalty to the community he protected. In recognition of his exceptional service, Officer Lamond received two D.C. Police Achievement Medals, the D.C. Police Lifesaving Award, and was named the 4th District Lieutenant of the Year in 2010. Most recently, he was honored with the Ribbon of Valor for the critical role he played in safeguarding the U.S. Capitol and D.C. on January 6, 2021.
Yet, despite a distinguished record spanning two branches of the uniformed services, Officer Lamond now faces an outcome that many believe is profoundly unjust. On December 23, 2024, he was convicted of one count of obstruction of justice and three counts of making false statements, based on allegations that he shared confidential intelligence with Enrique Tarrio. In reality, those interactions were part of a carefully managed effort to build rapport and gather information—standard, even indispensable tactics for any intelligence officer. Instead of recognition for performing his duties with skill and discretion, Shane has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
NCPD stands firmly behind Officer Lamond. We have launched a fund to ensure that Officer Lamond has access to the strongest legal representation available, and to provide financial support to his family and his children. A petition for clemency has been filed with President Trump on Officer Lamond’s behalf, making the case that Shane’s conviction represents a grave mischaracterization of law enforcement intelligence work. But petitions and filings are only one part of this fight—what truly sustains a family through hardship is the solidarity of a community.
We urge supporters of law enforcement, freedom, and fair treatment under the law to join us in backing Officer Lamond. Any amount helps, and donations will go towards his legal defense and to support his family. Together, we can honor a man whose life’s work has been protecting others, and ensure that he receives the justice he so richly deserves.
