Honoring Fallen Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin

Officer Jacob Derbin was murdered in an ambush on the 11th of May, when he attempted to search the backyard of the home of a woman who had called in a domestic disturbance plea regarding threats from an ex-partner. He was shot and killed by the suspect, but just before his death, he was able to warn his two other colleagues of the dangers, keeping them from harm.

The first year officer died a hero according to Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer who stated, “there is no doubt that his actions saved the lives of four individuals,” as he used his last words to protect his fellow men. Derbin was sworn into the Euclid Police Department in July of 2023, and his death stands firmly as a harsh reminder that respect for law enforcement is at an all time low. Chief Meyer reports that Derbin served his community with “dedication and honor;” compassionately committing himself to his job daily.

To lose a 23 year old officer in an ambush attempt is a stark and cruel reality that those who give their lives to protect the public are neither valued nor regarded with the appreciation they deserve. In order to honor these men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving others, Back the Badge protects the interests of these officers through donations and the promotion of law and order in order to keep our communities safe from violence and harm. As Officer Derbin’s high school alumni classmates began a fundraiser for his family and the commemoration of his death, Back the Badge 911 will offer their support in alliance with their desire to honor this fallen hero.

Back the Badge 911 is a project of National Center for Police Defense, a registered 501(c)3 organization, which is committed to supporting those who keep us safe. Increasingly, the rights and interests of law enforcement officers have been the subject of legislative, executive and judicial action in the nation’s capital. From issues of federal funding of State law enforcement and anti-terrorism efforts to federal policy on employee health, pension and other benefits, the actions of Congress and the Administration significantly impact public safety interests. These interests must be vigorously protected in light of the vital role law enforcement officers play in maintaining the peace and security of American society. Please consider donating today to help us support these heroes. All Donations are tax-deductible.
