On September 17, 2025, a shooting took place in York County, PA, which left three law enforcement officers dead and two injured. This tragedy centers around the ever increasing number of ambushes upon law enforcement officers, and has devastated the small town Pennsylvania community. Detectives Isaiah Emenheiser, Mark Baker, and Detective Sergeant Cody Becker were attempting to serve an arrest warrant when they were killed. The officers were following up on a domestic investigation for a man wanted for stalking a female; hiding in a field near her home and watching her. They originally went to the suspect’s house to serve the warrant, and were unable to locate him, so they returned to the home of the woman he was stalking. The front door was left unlocked, and upon entering, they were ambushed and fired upon multiple times. The shooter then continued to fire at the detective and deputy who had taken cover as they returned fire until he was struck and killed. Detective Sergeant Becker, Detective Baker, and Detective Emenheiser died on scene, while another deputy and detective were severely wounded. These officers were taken to a hospital and remain in critical but stable condition. During a news conference on Wednesday the 17th, Governor Josh Shapiro remarked, “This is an absolutely tragic and devastating day for the county and for the entire Commonwealth of PA. We grieve for the loss of life of the three precious souls who served this county, this commonwealth, and served this country…”
Detective Sergeant Cody Becker served with the Northern York County Regional Police for 16 years and has a decorated history. His tragic loss of life in the line of duty serves as a reminder of the relentless lack of respect for law enforcement and our immense need for support of these selfless men and women. Becker was a devoted husband, father, and son, leaving behind his wife and two children. Becker was an excellent college athlete with an outstanding wrestling achievement record. On October 11th, his community is hosting a “Cody Becker season kickoff clinic” at the local high school to honor the detective. All the proceeds from this clinic will go directly to Becker’s family.
Detective Mark Baker served with the Northern York County Regional Police for 31 years, previously serving with the Philadelphia Police for 3 years. Baker was deeply devoted to his family and community, with a wife and four children. He served on an FBI task force focused on combatting human trafficking, which highlights his heart for compassion and going above and beyond in all his duties. He was sworn in as a York County Detective, achieving the fastest promotion to highway patrol in his department’s history.
Detective Isaiah Emenhesier served with the Northern York County Regional
Police for 20 years. Giving his life in the line of duty in this horrific incident, he is survived by his wife and two children. He was a faithful attendee of his church, assisting in leadership and service, highlighting his belief in helping others and heart for his community. He was awarded the Medal of Merit by his department due to his exceptional attention to detail and technical knowledge in the field, as well as the Lifesaving award for his actions in saving a man’s life during a house fire.
These three individuals were taken from their families and communities far too soon, and Back the Badge 911 mourns with them. We are profoundly grateful for their sacrifices; moved by their dedication to service and pursuit of justice. Violence against law enforcement is an outrage, and we must continue to fight this war of hatred for our men and women who wear the badge. Back the Badge will honor these wounded and fallen heroes through a donation to each of their respective families.
