[12/06/2023, TAYLOR, MI]- The world of Officer Tyler Peake and his family was turned upside down when he faced a situation no officer ever wishes to encounter; called to a domestic disturbance, he confronted a suspect notorious for violence and aggression against law enforcement. As a dedicated member of the Taylor Police Department, Officer Peake’s priority was clear: protect the public and neutralize the threat. He did his job, taking decisive action to ensure the safety of his colleagues and the community.
On April 1, 2020, at 1:43 a.m., Taylor police were dispatched to the scene of a reported domestic disturbance involving Brendan Morgan and his girlfriend. On the 911 call, the girlfriend reported the domestic disturbance with Morgan and told the dispatcher that he had left the residence. Police spotted Morgan near a gas station and did what they were supposed to do: neutralize a potentially dangerous threat and take the suspect into custody.
However, the aftermath was a living nightmare for Peake and his family. The very system that should commend such bravery turned against him, maligning his actions and branding him as the offender. Officer Peake was charged with assault and battery and misconduct in office- a 5-year prison sentence if found guilty.
But the jury and public saw through the prosecutors’ unjust anti-police rhetoric and, after a two-day trial, found him NOT GUILTY on all charges! Officer Peake will be able to return home to his family and begin rebuilding his life after this horribly unjust run-in with the legal system.
