[APPOMATTOX, VA — September 14, 2026] — Back the Badge 911, in partnership with Support Our Shields, will visit the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, September 15 at 11:00 AM to honor fallen Deputy Sheriff Burlie W. Duvall III and recognize his service and sacrifice.
Deputy Duvall was killed in the line of duty on August 6, 2026, while assisting at a crash scene on Route 460 in Campbell County. Duvall and another deputy were returning from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy when they encountered the crash and stopped to assist. An approaching tractor-trailer struck Deputy Duvall, who died at the scene.
As part of Tuesday’s presentation, Back the Badge 911 will present a memorial donation check in honor of Deputy Duvall’s sacrifice. Support Our Shields Founder Henry “Hollywood” Morris will also present a custom memorial plaque to the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office commemorating Deputy Duvall’s life, service, and legacy.
Because Deputy Duvall’s death remains so recent, organizers are working closely with the department to ensure the presentation is respectful of his family and fellow deputies. His family has been invited to participate if they feel comfortable doing so, with no expectation or pressure to attend.
Deputy Duvall had served with the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office for approximately two months and had previously served with the Prince George’s County, Maryland, Department of Corrections. He is survived by his wife, three children, parents, siblings, grandparents, nieces, and nephews.
“Deputy Duvall was at the beginning of his service with Appomattox County when he stopped to help people in need,” Morris said. “That act of service ultimately cost him his life. We are honored to stand alongside Back the Badge 911 and the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office to make sure his sacrifice and the legacy he leaves behind are never forgotten.”
The Appomattox presentation is one of several memorial stops taking place this week across Virginia and Maryland honoring fallen members of the law enforcement community.
Back the Badge 911 supports law enforcement officers, agencies, and families through outreach and direct assistance.
